Adaeze Okonkwo covers Caribbean economy and sovereign debt for Cayman Journal, reporting on the regional capital markets, multilateral lenders, and the macro forces that shape island economies. Before joining the paper she spent six years as an emerging-markets sovereign analyst at a London asset manager and another four covering African macro for a major financial wire, work that lets her read an IMF Article IV review or a credit committee memo the way she reads the news. Her ongoing series on Caribbean debt sustainability has been cited in regional central-bank reports. Adaeze holds a master’s in economics from the London School of Economics, speaks English, Igbo, and conversational French, and is an alumna of the Reuters Institute.
